The Sandbox started off as popular mobile gaming titles The Sandbox (2011) and The Sandbox Evolution (2016), available on iOS and Android. In 2018, developer / publisher Pixowl decided to introduce the game to the blockchain ecosystem.
The game rose in popularity and developed as one of the premier UGC-based free-to-play and play-to-earn gaming brands in the blockchain space. - ESTATE: An ESTATE is the combination of multiple LAND units. Here, there is a potential for creator teams to develop larger and more immersive online experiences.

When The Sandbox initially launched in mid-2020, the price of its SAND token remained fairly steady while the project was in development and fluctuated between USD$0.03 and USD$0.32 from its launch date through to early 2021.
